Classrooms with Permeable Walls: a collaborative project across Computer Science, Science and RE to develop teenagers’ appreciation of the Big Questions.
In an increasingly scientific and technologically enhanced world, what are the critical insights and reasoning skills that young people need in order to be wise and compassionate citizens?
Consider for example the challenge of living and working alongside increasingly humanlike machines. Perhaps unsurprisingly, given the pace of change, few teachers in schools feel equipped to develop children’s insight or feel they have the breadth and depth of subject knowledge required.
As such this project is looking to discover the insights and critical thinking skills that students will need and to explore and develop ways to teach them.
The workshops have been developed with input by teachers in science, RE and computer science. We have also drawn on advice from specialists in neuroscience, philosophy, education and many other disciplines.
